Canadians on the lookout for that sexy LG G Watch R or Motorola Moto 360 can buy either one today, at US SRP, directly from Amazon.com.
Both the Moto 360 and G Watch R are stocked and sold by Amazon (neither company lists Amazon as a reseller). Both are certified by Industry Canada. But for some unfathomable reason Amazon ships only one (the Moto 360) to customers in the Great White North. If you’re lusting after the G Watch R, try this workaround.
UPS Stores at border crossings like Lewiston, Niagara Falls, or Ogdensburg NY allow Canadians to ship US-origin parcels to their locations, with tracking, using whatever carrier the US retailer prefers. If you live near the border, as most Canadians do, then you can pick up your parcel at the UPS Store when it arrives, and save the international shipping and brokerage fees. Or, in the case of the G Watch R, you can buy it online with your Canadian credit card, receive it within the USA, and bypass those pesky country restrictions on Amazon shipping.
If you don’t have time to make the trip to the States, ask your UPS Store to clear and ship it to your Canadian address. Most UPS Stores charge a few dollars per week to warehouse your parcel. Standard rates apply for customs clearance and cross-border delivery. Duty and HST are not their responsibility, so don’t have a shit hemorrhage when your watch arrives with those special Canadian government fees attached.
I’ll be fetching my G Watch R on December 6. Merry Christmas to me.
